A little over six months have now passed since fighting began in the heart of Europe. During the first days, the first weeks and the first months, the world public opinion was emotional and filled with indignation, and a sense of anguish and incredulity at what was unfolding in Ukraine.

Today, six months later, I feel a strange sense of resignation that risks being translated into indifference. The war in Ukraine is no longer worthy of the front page in newspapers and T.V. news channels and current affairs programmes have shifted the focus of their attention onto different issues; it appears that the August holidays have arrived for everyone.  

Yet people continue to suffer and die needlessly. Perhaps the only voice that has never stopped is that of Pope Francis whose forceful words never fail to resound loudly and clearly to remind the whole world of this. 

And the whole world that must shout one word loudly: PEACE.

Invoking peace as an objective is also an antidote to resignation, an antidote to the habit of war. I too want to participate in this effort, which must be global, by saying loudly and clearly: 'never get used to war, never resign yourself to war'.
